Darwinism

This ten song studio album features the original NEO in their post NUDE 2000 splendor. Each track hold a distinct character, spanning a funk groove to rocking frenzy of slide guitar and harmonica.

Serotonin

NEO band members helped in the internal construction of Black Bunny Studios and began recordings for the new album in October 2002. By December 2002 the recording for the album was complete, but not mixed or mastered. Powerfunk Records decided to produce a pre-release of the album featuring three of the strongest tracks. Thus the single Wrecking Ball, mixed and mastered by Subsonic, was released at the opening of the Mindil Beach Markets on 24 April 2003.

The launch, including a live concert, was broadcasted live to air on Louvered Lounge over ABC Territory Radio. The production quality of this concert, sound engineered by ABC’s Rob Smith, was of such high quality that Powerfunk Records decided to include a live CD primarily of this recording with the album. The studio album took on the new name Serotonin and the working title Cheap Therapy was given to this new bonus live CD.

It is the vision of Powerfunk Records to completely produce the Serotonin album within the NT, but unfortunately this was not entirely achieved. NEO sought the services of Subsonic who mixed the three songs on the Wrecking Ball single for mixing and mastering of the entire album. However the ears and skills of Cunliffe are in high demand and he was solidly booked for many months. The highly regarded recording engineer of the album, Colin Simpson, kindly offered to work with the band to mix the album at Black Bunny Studios and the final mix was sent to sound Warp in Sydney for Mastering.

Wrecking Ball DVD

To promote the Serotonin album, NEO produced with the assistance of Formation Studios, a video clip of Wrecking Ball; a song relating the plight of refugees coming to Australia. With a massive volunteer cast and crew, the Wrecking Ball video clip was the largest project of its kind attempted in the NT.

This served to raise NEO's profile as the filming of Wrecking Ball and its subsequent launch received much media attention locally and nationally, The video was supported by Darwin City Council who allowed the use of the East Point Gun Turret for the filming of the video. Additionally more than 130 people participated in the making of the video from all walks of life, cultures and ages, with the youngest participant being less than one year and the eldest over 60. The majority of the participants being school age. The 130 participants were entirely volunteer and the media support received in the build up was invaluable to the message being spread.

The launch of the video clip took place with the support of the Deckchair cinema in Darwin and was completed during refugee week. In its launch week, the video was played on ABC's Rage program and was featured on Rage on demand broadband for one week. The launch featured in Territory local papers and also at a national level in the Green Left Weekly. ABC's Stateline also closed its Friday night program on the week of the launch by playing the video clip. Wrecking Ball is often screened on Darwin station Info TV.

Powerfunk Records produced a DVD of Wrecking Ball featuring the Clip as well as extras such as the Making of, Garbage=Insanity an earlier NEO video clip, outtakes and the ABC Stateline special. This served as a new product for the label, as well as an excellent promotion device for NEO.

The Wrecking Ball Single

The Wrecking Ball, three-song, single launch was very well attended at the Mindil Beach Markets and the event marked a record for merchandise sales. Songs from the single were considered excellent material by Community radio stations interested in reaching a youngish crowd.
